*POSITION SUMMARY: *
The primary function of this position is for the development of
sophisticated solutions for various initiatives and projects the IT
applications department will undertake using Big Data technologies and
related platforms. The IT Big Data Developer will be responsible for
technical leadership roles in ownership of Big Data Platforms,
Applications, services framework or components assigned to them. The Big
Data Developer will be expected to architect solutions in AWS based cloud
deployments of big data platforms to integrate data from various sources
and position them to perform analytics, reporting, visualizations and quick
access for online applications. This position will be expected to provide
technical leadership and mentoring, working with a team of in-house and
outsourced Big Data developers in design, development, deployment and
systems integration activities. In addition, the Big Data Developer is
expected to do hands on coding and develop/implement design patterns and
other best practices.
*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:*
· Provide leadership for software application and module design and
coding to software development teams developing complex software and
services using Big Data platforms. Leadership may also extend to
applications using advanced analytic tools and technologies.
· Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to junior members of
the Big Data development team.
· Work hands-on and assist with development and integration of Big
Data Technologies such as Hadoop, *Spark*, Hive, *HBase*, *Kafka*, Redshift
and related tools such as Oozie, Sqoop, Impala, Presto.
· Be able to develop applications using Java, Scala and Python
· Manage and deliver the necessary solutions, software modules and
code for assigned projects.
· Instantiate systems and code modules from architecture and
business modeling standards for the company including class diagrams, data
models, business domain models, sequence diagrams, use case models,
collaboration diagrams
· Maintain UML model repository for applications in scope
· Develop and lead development efforts for projects using
Agile/Scrum based methodologies
· Guide development of test cases and scenarios for critical
applications and assist in review of software quality assurance deliverables
· Assist in driving defect and root cause analysis for software
defects and interfaces.
· Improves Big Data solutions by tracking emerging technologies
· Architect solutions in *AWS* based cloud based deployments of big
data platforms
*EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:*
*MINIMUM EDUCATION:*
· Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science.
*MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS:*
· A hands-on computer scientist at heart with a total 8+ Years’
experience of Software Development in Java related technologies
· Must have a minimum 3 years of solid experience in Spark using
Scala along with Build Tools such as Maven and SBT.
· Must have extensive experience with Big Data technologies such as
*HBase*, Hadoop, Hive, and *Kafka*
· Highly Desirable - Experience in REST/services and Big Data
technologies such as Oozie, Sqoop, Amazon EMR distribution, Python, Pig,
Impala, Presto and S3
· Big Plus - Experience in Apache Phoenix, Text Search (Solr,
ElasticSearch, CloudSearch), *AWS* databases (Redshift, Dynamo), VoltDB,
MemSQL
· Must have experience architecting solutions in AWS based cloud
deployments of big data platforms
· Should have good understanding of Spring Framework - Should have
knowledge and understanding of OOAD (UML) constructs/language (Class
Diagram, Sequence Diagram etc.) and Java/J2EE design patterns.
· Should have understanding of software development methodologies,
including Agile (Scrum)
· Experience and knowledge in various data interchange and
representation formats such as JSON, XML
· Lead Root Cause Analysis on production software defects and
solution or drive necessary remediation of those defects.
· Highly desirable - Experience working in the Hotel, Travel and
Hospitality industry
· • Highly desirable – Work experience developing
“customer 360” type solutions and Big Data analytic solutions
· Working knowledge of REST APIs
· Good understanding of Java build tools like Ant, Ivy, Maven
· Good understanding of front-end technologies, such as HTML5,
CSS3, jQuery, Bootstrap
· Basic understanding of CSS preprocessors like SASS, LESS
· Implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests,
familiarity with tools like Karma, Jasmine, etc.
· Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git,
SVN
· User authentication and authorization between multiple systems,
servers, and environments
· Integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system
· Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable
application
· Creating database schemas that represent and support business
processes
· Understanding accessibility and security compliance
· Understanding differences between multiple delivery platforms,
such as mobile vs. desktop, and optimizing output to match the specific
platform
· Understanding the nature of asynchronous programming and its
quirks and workarounds
