Contract position 


Oracle DB Administration 

Customer has one development Oracle 10g database server on Windows 2003
platform and one production Oracle 10g database server on a Windows 2003
platform. The primary function of the database server is the back end for a
transactional revenue collection system, and is subject to PCI compliance as
part of customer's bankcard environment. 

2. Responsibilities 

v Maintenance and Monitoring 

. Monitor and maintain database security 

. Design and maintain data security models to protect core business 

. database servers from corruption, improper use and unauthorized access 

. Maintain user access 

. Coordinate and oversee the backup of database systems 

. Design and implement backup solutions 

. Implement and administer data redundancy systems 

. Ensure availability of major business systems 

. Troubleshoot and enhance database performance issues 

. Optimize database performance 

. Perform preventative maintenance and planning 

. Monitor database performance and troubleshoot problems 

. Monitor and maintain space allocation for databases and files 

. Document all aspects of his/her work 

. Performance tuning and apply appropriate preventative planning and
maintenance 

. Transfer configuration and site-specific knowledge to customer staff 

. Provide 24x7 emergency support 


v Project Support 

. Assess the current Oracle systems and provide a scope of work for
necessary or advised changes to customer for approval 

. DB upgrade from 10g to 11g 

4. Requirements/Qualifications 

. Experienced in Oracle 10g and 11g on Windows 

. Familiarity with Oracle best practices 

. Strong initiative and the ability to self-manage 

. Comfortable with ambiguity and able to work through it to get the right
things done 

. 5 or more years of experience in Oracle administration 

. Demonstrated experience in managing technical solutions that directly
serve business requirements, setting realistic customer expectations, and
delivering to those expectations 

. Exceptional oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal
skills to participate effectively in cross-functional teams, and to
represent technology services in a manner that is easily understood by
non-technical users and customers 

. Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills
