Among the responsibilities are: · Determine the logical design of a target Enterprise data model that will be promoted as the standard data model across all enterprise applications; · Perform Data Architecture Reviews for evaluating new applications’ data needs and define how to leverage existing data structures to avoid their multiplication; · Evaluate alternatives for data rationalization plans to reduce duplication of data domains/attributes across Enterprise Applications; · Facilitate and lead the discussion and evaluation of data modeling across key initiatives (i.e. Vantage, Peoplesoft, Hyperion, Data Warehouse Architecture, MDM); · Establish principles to guide the data design of all Enterprise Applications; · Ensure data privacy rules across Enterprise Applications; · Rationalize data flows among Enterprise Application; · Participate in due diligence of new software purchases by reviewing all proposed data models contained in the application being evaluated; · Review and approve the data models proposed to be implemented in any new project initiative; · Identify, define, agree and promote data lifecycles for the key data elements across the enterprise such as: Employee, Organization, Client, Chart of Accounts, etc; · Identify opportunities to expand the use of the data architecture principles across operating units; · Actively participate in the refinement of the data architecture principles and keep them current; · Train Project Managers in the data architecture principles and data Architecture Reviews methodology; · Keep Data Architecture Reviews documentation up to date; · Keep updated and promote the use of the Architecture site; · Relationship management with Application leads, BIS leads and Business users; · Keep multiple teams engaged; The position has to effectively manage the analysis, design and implementation of the data Architecture initiatives in a decentralized environment where all application project teams work based on their project priorities not necessarily following the defined architecture principles. All Data Architecture initiatives have a potential impact across all applications project teams, thus requiring additional coordination efforts. The position also needs to help the Enterprise Application Architect in promoting the benefits of applying the data architecture principles for all projects. The position has to be ready to travel when required. The position might have to manage parallel project in different geographic locations. Challenges faced: The Applications Architecture area needs to consolidate the delivery of the key priorities defined in conjunction with all Business Units CIOs. Currently, there are no full time assigned resources working with the Enterprise Architect, only part time resources are dedicated to work on the architecture initiatives. A dedicated data architect is required to spearhead all data rationalization efforts within the organization. The current situation is described as follows: • There is no strategy for a comprehensive enterprise Data Architecture approach. • Current Data models are designed and maintained by each application development teams. • There is no visibility of the decisions around how data is being structured, stored and manipulated. • There is an increasing need to manage enterprise data in a consistent and standardized data model to enable global, regional reporting (analytical data needs) and for streamlining business process integration (operational data needs). • Due to the lack of data design governance, data is being duplicated in multiple applications making its integration more complex and time consuming. • Key global enterprise application systems (such as SAP, Peoplesoft and Hyperion, in addition to the Enterprise Data Warehouse architecture initiative) are being implemented thus adequate data modeling and data integration requirements need to be established. • MDM is currently being implemented to rationalize the global reporting solutions. • There are Data Privacy concerns that need to be taken into account thus increasing the need for limiting the duplicity of “confidential” data across multiple applications. • The need for data integration becomes more complex and expensive when multiple versions of the same data are maintained in different applications. Today there is a focus on getting data integrated via interfaces rather than rationalizing how data is being defined. • Data Governance is being defined as a key priority as part of the MDM initiative which may impact key systems deployments strategy (i.e. Vantage ) Priorities: Following are the key priorities that the Data architect needs to focus: • Organize a Data Architecture Board with representation of the major Enterprise Applications; • Define a target Data Architecture including a transition plan and priorities for its implementation è Validate and define an Enterprise Data Model to be reused across Enterprise Applications; • Define a data privacy compliance approach for Enterprise Applications è Validate Data Privacy attributes; • Perform Data Architecture review for Peoplesoft and Vantage to ensure a seamless integration; • Refine long term MDM approach è Validate MDM data model for Client, Vendor, Organization and Chart of Accounts è Validate the principles for defining global attributes for each data entity that will be managed in MDM; • Perform Data Architecture review for Staging Area (SA) è Validate SA data model for GL, Time and Compensation Data è Validate the principles for defining the inclusion of other transactional data in the SA; • Validate key data entities’ data model for implementing MDM as a System of Record; • Determine lifecycle of key data entities – rationalizing operational data flows; • Analyze Data Architecture frameworks and their applicability to IPG needs. Measurable Impact on the Organization: • This position is responsible to help the Enterprise Applications Architect in defining and leading the discussion to establish a target data Architecture to be used for all Enterprise Applications • This position is responsible for maintaining the Enterprise Data model once defined Without this position the Applications Architect will not be able to spend time in refining the concepts, operational impact, changes across applications and get in agreement with all parties including agency representatives, GIS applications and GIS infrastructure groups. *Regards, **Kumar Reddy,* * OSAIR Technologies LLC 301 N HARRISON STREET SUITE # 386 Princeton, NJ | 08540-3512 Voice : 630-206-9379* *Fax: 732-289-6076 ku...@osairtech.com* *www.osairtech.com* *"We want to be your Trusted, Preferred & long Term Partner"* -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "SAP BASIS" group.
