Job Title: Senior Linux Engineer Location: Elk Grove Village , Illinois
Duration: 9-12 month contract that could be extended Rate: $75/hr *PRIMARY Responsibilities/Duties/PROJECT:** * - Develops Linux solutions in support of applications development projects - Defines technical architecture for Linux systems - Performs acceptance testing of hardware and software solutions - Conducts project system design reviews - Studies vendor products and makes recommendations to management based on the needs of the company and the ability to integrate with existing systems - Provides support for Linux hardware and software technologies - Monitors daily operations of server environment - Installs, configures, and maintains servers - Analyzes and coordinates resolution of server-based problems. Interfaces with vendor support groups and other departments to ensure proper escalation and coordination towards problem resolution - Interfaces with Storage Management, Distributed Infrastructure Services, Operations, and Coverage groups as required - Provides support for Linux server application development activities - Creates application development environments for development, staging, and production - Develops server standards and ensures application development groups adhere to standards - Participates in production implementation planning, including scheduling and development of associated implementation processes - Performs copies, moves, etc. of application components during application development production implementation - Works closely with application development business area management and staff on server configurations and network design - Establishes hardware and software standards – evaluation, selection, and certification - Develops, publishes, and maintains documentation related to projects, hardware and software configuration - Prepares proposals, cost benefit analyses, feasibility studies - Prepares status reports and problem summaries as required - Requires individual to carry pager/cell phone - will be expected to work non-business hours to resolve production problems and perform scheduled off-hour activities *REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE:* - 5-7 years experience with UNIX and Linux servers - Strong working knowledge of the following: - Linux operating systems, specifically Red Hat and SUSE Linux - Linux clustering technology, specifically RHEL Clustering and VCS - x86 hardware, firmware and device drivers for HP Proliant servers - Linux software distribution and recovery tools including rpm, RHN, Satellite server, Kickstart. - Linux disk management tools including Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and Veritas Volume Manager - Working knowledge of the following: - Networking topologies and associated protocols (TCP/IP), including NFS, VXFS, VxCFS and DNS - Database Management software, specifically MySQL and Oracle 9i, 10g, RAC - Storage subsystems hardware and software, specifically HP/HDS storage subsystems, Brocade switches, NAS - Firewalls, load balancers, layer 3 switches, middleware technologies, including Weblogic Server, Jboss, Apache, Wiki, MQ Series/TIBCO - Familiarity with systems management technologies and product solutions including J2EE design strategies * * *REQUIRED EDUCATION:* - BS or BA in computer science or related field * * *TECHNICAL SKILLS:* Platforms: Red Hat, SUSE Linux, Enterprise UNIX Databases: MySQL, Oracle Languages: Shell Scripting, Perl, Python, TCL Other: LVM, VxVM, RH Clustering, Veritas Clustering, Wiki * * Thanks & Regards David.
