*Position :* Metadata

*Location :* State of MN , MN

*Duration :* 6 Months

*Engagement Description: *Design & implement a metadata repository & a
business data catalog (aka data directory) to identify, locate, track, &
manage MnDOT s data assets.

*Note:* MnDOT has named this project Business Data Catalog, but it is not
referencing the Microsoft SharePoint product of the same name.

This project will result in a controlled, standards-based metadata
repository & a data catalog accessed via a simple Web application user
interface to enable manual search, create, read, update, delete (SCRUD) of
metadata.

A separate resource (Java programmer) will build the Web application user
interface. The work must be done at the MnDOT Central Office location in the
Capitol Complex in St. Paul.

Use of Oracle databases is required for this implementation.

MnDOT has identified the standard metadata elements that need to be included
in the repository & catalog, & is prioritizing the data subject areas for
inclusion in this implementation.

This is being done in coordination with a concurrent Oracle Business
Intelligence project & an Enterprise Data Warehouse effort so that business
topics are implemented in the same order.

The first priority is Human Resources data. Vendor tasks include: Identify
the location of data tables & any existing standard metadata for specified
data subject areas in the Human Resources data domain.

This implementation will include at least four data subject areas & will
create the architecture, standards, & processes for eventual population of
up to 100 data subject areas in nine data domains.

Design & implement a metadata repository.

Design & implement a change process for updates to the repository.

Populate the metadata repository fr0m at least four data subject areas in
the Human Resources data domain.

Develop, test & put into production a functioning business data catalog
which includes at least four data subject areas.

Design a web application user interface. A separate resource will build the
user interface.

Recommend best practices for data readiness, data inclusion, data quality,
data integrity, & trusted source. Provide knowledge transfer to MnDOT staff.

A small number of MnDOT s total data subject areas have been prioritized for
implementation during this project.

The project will create the structure & processes to enable MnDOT to add to
the catalog over time. Knowledge transfer should include a recommendation
for a potential automated metadata harvesting solution for implementation of
future data subject areas, including recommendation of COTS tools that may
be appropriate.

An automated solution will not be used, however, for the current
implementation under this project.

Provide MnDOT specific support documentation materials on data population,
maintenance, & use.

*Requirements within the MnDOT environment:* Contractor will adhere to the
following: Compliance with the Statewide Enterprise Architecture Compliance
with Statewide Project Management Methodology Compliance with applicable
industry/agency standards Compliance with OI&TS (Office of Information &
Technology Services) standards Transition & offload of the implemented
environment & results to MnDOT staff
