Position: Lead Core JAVA Developer Duration: 11+ months Location: East Haven, CT VERY HOT NEED Job Summary: This position will conduct technology evaluation and recommendation, mentoring developers through hands-on assistance as well as formal and informal training and some technical development. Work with business and development team in identifying, designing, and developing technical architecture solution components. As a technical leader, the job requires a pragmatic visionary that can translate business needs into workable technology solutions that scale both technically and operationally and also raise the engineering and operational standards. This position will also be responsible for application performance from performance modeling, to performance measuring/profiling, to performance tuning. Duties and Responsibilities • Analyze and enhance existing multi-tier J2EE web application and optimize the design/technology/software for both performance and scalability. • Design, prototype and implement architecture improvements working in collaboration with other technical and functional groups within Thomson Reuters • Research and prototype new tools and technologies to improve business requirements (the candidate must be able and willing to code in Linux environment). • Lead and mentor technical team members (from multiple locations) by reviewing the design and their code. • Estimates effort required for own work, and checks and agrees other team members' estimates. Accountable for planning work assigned to their team, including work breakdown, accurate estimate and identification of possible solution options. • Accountable for tracking status of team's work and ensuring deliverables are produced on agreed schedules. Responsible to communicate accurately the status of ongoing work to stakeholders. • Sets timeframes and schedules to meet business needs. • Presents status updates for various projects to project management and senior managers. • Ensures self and team develop modules using disciplined processes, adhering to industry standards and best practice guidelines. • Works with vendors to understand technology and performs technical due diligence on third party technology delivery. • May have cost responsibility for own team/project, and/or contribute to forecasting budgets and recommending expenditure without being fully accountable for them. • Identifies ways to improve the operation of own area and to achieve efficiencies and results and assists in process improvement. • Provides technical guidance to team members. • Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors; • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results; • Work in collaboration with other groups to make sure the project is a success; this includes project management, business analysis, QA, operational groups; Education and Previous Experience: • Bachelor's degree in computer science • 8+ years of overall experience and 3+ years of experience in leading a technical group of 5 to 10 team members or above Knowledge & Skills: • 8+ years experience in software development projects • Required languages: o 5+ years of experience in Core Java (including Generics), 4+ years in spring framework specifically 1+ years of in spring framework version 3.0 and above. o 3+ years of experience in Ajax, Ant (version 1.7 and above), XML and XSLT o 3+ years of experience in Unix shell scripting with BASH and KSH shell, AWK and GAWK • Required Operating Systems: 3+ years of experience in Unix, Linux environment (no GUI), all aspects of the programming, scripting, ability to work with ssh, vi/emacs • Relational database: o 3+ years of experience in Oracle and Postgres and database DML & DDL • Web servers: o 5+ years of experience in Apache Tomcat and minimum 2+ year of experience in Apache Tomcat version 5.0 and above with skills to administrate server properties, debug, and deploy multi tier web applications o 2+ years of experience in Apache HTTP server and its administration with the knowledge of cache, memory cache, rewrite and redirect rules; • 6+ years of experience in source version tools SVN with deep knowledge of SVN external properties, branching and merging. • Text processing: 3+ years of experience in advanced regular expressions, XML, XSLT, character encoding. • 3+ years of experience in project effort/risk estimation and reviewing architectural designs and programming codes • 4+ years of experience in advance JVM debugging skills using Jprofiler, Jmap, Jconsole, Eclipse MAT or similar tool s • Ability to understand quickly the entire system and all of its interactions, and able to tackle macro problems and dive into the different parts of the system effectively as necessary on short notice • Effective technical communicational skills • Ability to work in a team environment Other skills • Must be a self-starter, and able to work independently with minimal supervision and also should have the ability to mentor 5+ team members • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Must have strong leadership and decision-making skills. • Must be a Team player, with strong reasoning skills, who is able to effectively influence others, and who possesses excellent collaboration skills. • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. • Must be comfortable working with senior level Client management on a daily basis • Must have Excellent verbal and written communication skills Regards, Daniel Hoffman | Staffing Manager | daniel.hoff...@panzersolutions.com | Panzer Solutions LLC. | | Fax: 203-971-8354 | Notice of Confidentiality: The information contained herein is intended only for the confidential use of the recipient.
