*Job Title:  Infrastructure Design Engineer*

*Location:  Saint Joseph, MI*

*Duration: 5+ months*

*Project Engineering in a Enterprise Global Environment.  Examples…with
projects coming down – assessment of capacity, processing, equipment,
sizing, etc to the Infrastructure and then creation of upgrades, additions,
etc.  Must be able to work with Architecture for planning, project
management for implementation and IBM Global services for operational
handoff.   *

*Day to Day (what a typical day or week look like in this role)*

* *

*1. Partner with GIS Global Business Solutions to design global
infrastructure in support of application development projects that utilize
infrastructure components. Recommend and design infrastructure technologies
that will add value to business projects.*

* *

*2. Investigate new technologies that will bring value to Whirlpool and
could be potentially implemented for strategic benefits. Evaluate new
technology recommendations proposed by the strategic sourcing partner*

* *

*3. Work with strategic sourcing partner and Infrastructure Delivery to
deliver changes to the infrastructure environment in support of projects.
Review and approve final designs of changes to the environment before
implementation. Ensure that approved architectural standards developed are
maintained as changes are designed.*

*4. Coordinate infrastructure needs across regions and platforms with other
Operations and Project SMEs for a consistent and coordinated environment.*

* *

*5. Create annual infrastructure demand plan for your entire project
portfolio.*

* *

*6. Provide infrastructure pricing for all projects and MOB requests*

* *

*What You Will Do*

* *

*1. Work with Enterprise Architecture group in development of new standards
to be used in the Global Infrastructure environment. Serve as the bridge
for architectural design and production implementation.*

* *

*2. Review and provide input to implementation project plans proposed by
the strategic sourcing partner. Govern the strategic sourcing partner on
infrastructure project implementation, support and go-live turnover.*

* *

*3. Work with GIS Infrastructure Project Management Office on project
activities.*

* *

*4. Review project financials for projects in the GI area. Work with GIS
Infrastructure Delivery to ensure effective use of strategic sourcing
partner project pool hours.*

* *

*5. Work to ensure that effective change management efforts are applied to
any projects making changes to the Global Infrastructure environment.*

* *

*What You Need To Succeed*

* *

*Solution Design experience in a large and complex environment hosting
multiple components in support stringent business needs.*

* *

*Master level skill in the design and implementation of at least two of the
following Subject Matter Expertise areas in a large global enterprise
environment: Relational database administration (preferred), SAP NetWeaver
Administration and Support (preferred), midrange IBM platforms such as IBM
pSeries and Wintel servers, and Networking.*

* *

*Extensive use and experience of two of the above platforms would be needed.
*

* *

*Leadership skills a must.*

* *

*Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical
subjects to non technical audiences.*

* *

*Strong ability to clearly document system design elements including use of
appropriate documentation tools*

* *

*Global Project Engineer Duties*

* *

**    Design detailed infrastructure architecture for each project.*

**    Research project business and technical requirements.*

**    Create Solution Design based on requirements, research and detailed
analyses.*

**    Create Project Request Form (PRF) to turn over Solution Design to IBM*

**    Hand-off of solution design and Project Request Form to ID Team and
IBM.*

**    Create annual Infrastructure Demand Plan for entire project portfolio.
*

**    Participate in Architecture Review Board and Initial Service Provider
Review .*

**    Collaborate with other GI Teams where specific SME support is needed
for Solution Design/PRF .*

**    Ensure that all servers are built to standards and specifications.*

**    Estimate ROM for projects as and when needed .*

**    Participate in validating ROM and SOW from IBM .*

**    Govern sourcing partner for solution delivery as per specifications .*

**    Design detailed infrastructure architecture for each project .*

**    Create overall Infrastructure Demand Plan for project requirements .*

**    Provide Infrastructure pricing for all projects and MOB requests .*

**    Knowledge transfer of solution design and Project Request Form to
Infrastructure Delivery Team and IBM .*

**    Ensure seamless transition occurs from project to sustaining
operations .*

**    Work closely with EA to design and engineer solutions.*

**    Work with GBS and partners to size environments.*

**    Maintain / update all solution designs.*

**    Responsible for physical installation of all new AIX Pseries hardware

**    Design the layout of the P series hardware .*

**    Architect storage connectivity .*

**    Architect network connectivity.*

**    Provide input for the AIX golden Image and make sure it's in
compliance with ISAC.*

**    Engineer the physical and logical layout of all servers and
applications running on the servers.*

**    Understand all components of AIX operating system.*

**    Capacity management and servers mapping when doing technology refresh.

**    Constant consultation with IBM sales and support on all new
announcement on new products, enhancements and upgrades.*

**    Work with application performance group on performance tuning.*

**    Attend AIX focus groups to stay current on any enhancements and
offerings.*

**    Troubleshoot performance issues.*

**    Create/maintain standards for the environment, Operating systems, and
servers - logical and physical.*

**    Understand and design application mapping.*

**    Work with all infrastructure teams to understand their areas*

**    Understand AIX micro-partitioning technology. *
