Position:Performance Engineer Location: Rochester, NY Duration:6+Months Performance Engineering Roles and Responsibilities · Accountable for the completion of all Performance tasks within the assigned area of discipline in accordance with the agreed upon project plan · Actively participate in the design process to ensure full consideration of operational impact and Performance supportability as well as incorporation of applicable standards · Read all relevant project artifacts (Project Charter, Requirements, etc.) to fully understand objectives, scope and timeline of the project. Manage timing and quality of deliverables assigned to your team. · Coordinate with your functional manager to secure additional resources for the project when required. · Define, estimate and plan all Performance tasks · Manage the activities required of any additional resources from your organization to ensure timely completion of tasks according to expectations set with the Project Manager. · Communicate progress on Performance task status to the Project Manager · Prepare for meetings in advance to ensure that your time and that of the rest of the project team is spent efficiently. · Provide the project with dependable subject matter expertise with a focus on Performance, seeking others’ expertise when appropriate. Ensure that your team’s work meets quality, cost and time expectations set by the Project Manager and the Champion. Ensure that deliverables meet Paychex approved standards. · Clearly communicate, and escalate if appropriate, to the Project Manager any issues, risks, assumptions, and constraints that affect the work of you or your team. Delegate proper responsibility where necessary and update the Performance Risk Matrix and Performance Issues List as well. If applicable, ensure that all team members have the information they need to be successful. · Develops and maintains a complete understanding of the application being performance tested. Reviews critical, complex, or high impact application workflows to ensure performance test cases are included in the Performance Test Plan/Strategy. · Identify problems and conflicts before they impact the project negatively. Find common ground, identify and execute corrective actions to mitigate risks and document in the appropriate communication (email, risk matrix, issues list, manager escalation, etc). Gather and analyze facts before making decisions. Exhibit sound judgment when making recommendations. Exhibit sound judgment to ensure that disagreements are escalated for management resolution to secure a timely decision. · Engage the project manager, executive director or sponsor to eliminate bottlenecks and concerns impeding team progress. · Develops and maintains automated test scenarios that measure and validate performance against requirements and according to the Performance Test Plan/Strategy. May include the scenario execution, analysis, reporting and presenting performance test results to stakeholders. · Creates and documents performance test scripts based on service requirements that support the overall SDLC (including waterfall, iterative and agile frameworks). Includes automated test scripts with LoadRunner. Is capable of working independently on the most challenging assignments. · Utilize diagnostic and monitoring tools to detect, isolate, and resolve performance issues throughout the technology stack. May be asked to research and evaluate new diagnostic tools. · Communicates the performance testing status to performance test lead, project team members and the test manager to ensure timelines and quality are met. Responsible for publishing daily and weekly status reports when needed. · Responsible for leading partnering teams with user account/test data creation and maintenance in accordance to performance test plans. The engineer will partner with Development to review & reuse automated scripts, queries, and automation techniques to create test data. Responsible for scheduling and maintaining the applications and infrastructures used during performance testing. · Responsible for facilitating check point meetings with customers and assigned testing resources to track the project status and discuss any open/pending issues/concerns. Includes bottleneck analysis or script replay issues. · The engineer will partner with Development to review development design documents to ensure performance and scalability is ”designed in” early in product development, and will collaborate with Developers to investigate thread contention issues, memory leaks, and other performance and scalability bottlenecks in the application and database layers, as well as measure, profile, and provide implementation recommendations. · Responsible for maintaining performance measurement instrumentation used to observe application and infrastructure performance across diverse hardware, operating systems, application servers, and databases. Includes Client Experience Monitoring, transaction tracing with diagnostic tools to detect, isolate, and resolve performance issues throughout the technology stack. · Mentor less senior team members. Shares expertise and provides guidance to others as required to assist the performance testing team. · Mentor cross functional team members in performance test tools and practices that can be employed early SDLC. Shares expertise and provides guidance to others as required to assist the project testing team. · Designs and executes performance tests to meet scalability test objectives created by Capacity Planning. · Responsible for maintaining automated test environments and scripts for use in release to release and project performance test scenarios.
