Job Description: Web Development expert

We are a small UX centric team that is responsible for building user
interfaces and websites for new products/services within Microsoft and we
are looking for a talented and driven front end Web Developer. You will be
building or updating HTML 5, ASP.NET MVC 3+ mission critical, globalized,
websites for internal and external customers. We focus on engineering
excellence, modularity, extensibility, and code quality. You will be
working with a passionate group of people who value teamwork/collaboration,
communication, and hard work.

Must have:

• Expert JavaScript skills

o Working without jQuery makes you tear up, but you know you’ll be OK.
(don’t worry, we use jQuery)

o You go to sleep mulling over event propagation, closures, callbacks and
optimal data structures for async calls, etc.

o You wonder why everyone doesn’t use JSON for all data objects sent over
the wire.

o You look at JSLint and say “bring it on”.

• Expert HTML/XHTML skills

o When I say “must be cross browser friendly”, you say “as if there was any
other way to write code”

o The HTML 5 Doctype is your favorite.

o When your code doesn’t pass the W3C validator

o You’ve totally been caught reading W3C Draft specs but probably said
something like “Yeah, but I have to do it for work”, when, of course, you
don’t.

• Expert CSS skills

o Can you clear a float with CSS alone?

o CSS box model is 2nd nature to you.

o Always use some form of reset style sheet.

o You can probably tell me how browsers decide cascade order, and you
secretly hope we will ask you about it sometime because it is esoteric and
cool.

• Attention to detail

• Some ASP.NET/C# <http://ASP.NET/C> experience

• jQuery experience

o You don’t need to be an expert, but you probably want to be, and you
should be familiar enough to follow code written using jQuery.

Nice to have:

• ASP MVC experience (or similar Rails experience).

• Experience with globalization in HTML and JavaScript.

• Experience with accessibility for the web.

• Familiar with Modernizr.

• CMS experience

• Scrum/Agile experience

Thanks & Regards
