Data Engineer Portland, OR 6+ Months Contract Phone Hire The position will focus on build out of a scalable Enterprise Data Lake built on Hadoop and analytics architecture that enables the management and delivery of large and diverse data sets that include genomics data, imaging data, and clinical data for use in a research context. The position requires hands on effort to implement Hadoop based solutions integrating data from disparate sources, and of disparate types (e.g. structured, unstructured, etc). The ideal candidate will have experience with development of large-scale data structures for business intelligence, using ETL/ELT processes and tools, both relational and dimensional data modeling, in both on premise and cloud environments. Experience in development and implementation of major big data solutions on Hadoop leveraging Sqoop, Flume, Storm, Spark, MapReduce, Hive, HBase, Impala, Oozie, and ZooKeeper is a must. Familiarity with massively parallel processing databases and other Big Data technology is a plus. Working familiarity with regulatory requirements such as HIPAA and PHI is preferred. This position will frequently interact with collaborators throughout OHSU and must represent ITG while fostering relationships and implementing standards and techniques that will allow for exchange of information and knowledge. The Big Data Engineer will possess or develop the ability to translate research data requirements into a concrete data supply chain as well as the ability to document designs and clearly communicate them to technical and non-technical peers. � Consolidate and optimize available data source systems into a Hadoop-based Big Data platform � Design, configure, develop and implement ETL processes for intake of data from both internal and external sources; as well as ensure data is verified and quality is checked � Design, develop and implement ETL processes and data architecture to ensure proper functioning of analytics load, as well as client�s or third-party�s reporting environments and dashboard � Carry out monitoring, tuning, and data pipeline performance analysis � Perform the design and extension of data services, metadata, information security and data models � Complete appropriate technical documentation to adopted standards and ensure compliance with standards across development team. � Provide feedback and accurate technical information to project managers, analysts, engineers and administrators in other groups working to identify and resolve issues. Collaborates with internal and external initiatives � Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders in ensuring data provisioning development progresses in a way that will continue to meet the needs of the research community. � Keep abreast of other Research data initiatives and look to leverage others work when possible. � Participates in OHSU data sharing and integration initiatives, and helps to establish standards, best practices, and reusable assets.
