Overview

• Platform Services Mainframe is a team of mainframe system programmers
that install, maintain and support the mainframe infrastructure for
Mastercard.
• Platform Services Mainframe interacts with many internal development and
operations teams to support the MasterCard core applications and customer
file transfers.
• This job requires a Mainframe Systems Programmer especially familiar with
IBM z/Architecture and z/OS.



*• This job actively performs performance problem determination, setting
WLM Policy and implementation of data processing software as they relate
primarily to Mainframe z/OS.  • Have you ever performed Performance &
Tuning activities on a z/OS platform? • Have you worked with a z/OS Highly
Available Parallel Sysplex? *• Have you worked in an ITIL shop utilizing a
change, incident & problem tracking system?
• Have you regularly supported other development and operations teams with
implementations and issues?


Role



*• Configuring, installing, maintaining and supporting SAS, MXG, CA-MICS,
MFX (SYNCSORT) and related systems software with a primary focus on
configuring and supporting a Highly Available Parallel Sysplex.  • Create
SAS based CA-MICS and MXG reports from SMF data and analyze the reports to
determine performance issues and resource usage. *• Complete status
reports, implementations, troubleshooting and maintain project plans as
required.
• Utilize Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool, create reports for management
approval and forwarding to vendor.
• Provide technical assistance to Operations teams and development
programmers to facilitate independent utilization of new and existing
software. Assist with diagnosis of issues as reported through our incident
/ problem tracking tool.
• Engage other mainframe systems programmers as needed to resolve incidents
expeditiously.
• Accurately document duties and procedures to aid the department in
cross-training and absentee coverage. Complete audit requirements on a
monthly and quarterly basis by verifying software releases and
implementations.
• Support business disaster recovery procedures or fail over testing for
assigned areas of responsibility. Prepare and coordinate appropriate
training to data center staff.
• Ability to adhere to a standard work schedule as defined by the
department, plus on-call rotation and after hours support and
implementations that can require evening and weekend work.


All About You

• Solid knowledge of z/OS operating systems, infrastructure software,
computer hardware and peripherals.
• Solid understanding & experience with System Modification
Program/Extended (SMPE) installation and maintenance of z/OS components
such as O/S and MFX.
• Strong inter-personal, written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge in vendor software tools related to system performance products
a plus. Specifically, experience with BMC MainView, SAS, and CA-MICS, MXG.
• Ability to effectively work with vendors, internal departments and
management
• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems quickly and completely
• Ability to install, support and diagnose third party software.

*this person will point out inefficiencies and point the team in the right
direction to fix...if it is not an infrastructure issue this *person would
work with the individual to get fixed

*would require off hours/weekend support  at times

*if there is a fire alarm..this person would have to bee available.....the
environment is pretty stable but a change on the application might start a
slow down somewhere that would need to be resolved(something infrastructure
might need change or something that they need to stop doing

*prefer local but open to nonlocal - would do phone/Skype

*make sure that candidates have skills on resume

*ITIL is a nice to have but if there are changes the process has to be
followed
