Duties & Responsibilites :

Our Client is embarking on the next stage of its comprehensive modernization program, which entails the migration of legacy retirement information software systems onto leading edge, custom-built software solutions.
The Client is seeking seasoned expertise in SQL Server Database Administration to successfully assist and lead technology efforts to deliver our systems modernization.
Initial focus areas will be in performance tuning, security, audit and archival strategy.

Scope:
Seeking a senior SQL Server Database Administrator with strong technical, analytical and presentation skills to lead, assist and mentor current staff, and actively participate in the following scope of work:
- VNAV Phase 4
- Database administration support 
- Database infrastructure and design
- Business Intelligence administration and development
- VNAV Re-factoring
- Research and propose alternative SQL audit strategies for VNAV and other environments. 
- Implement improved SQL security methods to ensure secure ability to transfer data between SQL servers. This includes linked servers, Kerberos and VNAV security updates during database refreshes.
- Research and propose alternatives for VNAV data archival to improve system performance. Design and develop archival solutions.
- Research and propose partitioning and indexing strategies.

Proposed individuals must have significant experience in the practical use of and support of SQL Server database engine and SSIS. Experience in SSRS and Audit are a plus.

Required Skills
- In depth SQL Server database administration experience to include: TSQL, Backup and recovery, SQL objects creation, SQL security methods, and Performance tuning in SQL Server 2008 or higher.
- Analyze and propose system changes in data strategies for meeting business objectives and impacts, including costs and effort required to implement. 
- Ability to review and/or develop data models
- Must be an excellent communicator and be able to produce clear and concise presentations and documentation at the detail and summary level.
- Ability to develop Stored Procedures.
- Ability to develop SSIS packages in BI Studio.
- Able to quickly and accurately assess and understand database issues, recommend resolution approach and resolve.
- Must be an independent worker and be able to prioritize own work activities with minimal guidance and coaching.
- Must meet deadlines.
- Possess and apply a broad range of expertise of technology principles, best practices and procedures to the completion of difficult and complex assignments crossing multiple functional areas.
- Ensure compliance with VRS configuration management policies and procedures with regard to all database objects, scripts, tables, etc.

Additional Preferred Skills
- SQL Server high availability concepts with working knowledge of Clustering
- Experience with SQL Server partitioning
- SQL Server Reporting Services administration and development
- Working knowledge of data scrambling techniques
- Experience with SQL Server’s Audit feature
- Working knowledge of Kerberos security techniques with SQL Server
- Experience with large, complex, cross-functional applications
- An aptitude for fast learning, and the ability to work well in a team environment
- Retirement or Insurance industry experience

REQUIRED SKILLS:
-Candidate should have a minimum of three (3) years SQL Server Administration experience in complex software systems.
-Experience on complex projects preferred.
-Candidate must be independent worker who can successfully work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
-This position will be on a contract basis for a period of approximately 12 months with the potential for an extension.
-To be effective, this resource would need to be available within the next month.
