• Draft Software Design Documentation for a technical audience, by working with the Technical Leads, Developers and Business Analysts.
• Collaborates with various departments business owners, and other related parties to ensure creation and maintenance of technical documents.
• Develop, write, edit, store, retrieve, or manipulate technical documentation such as technical manuals, technical orders or electronic technical data.
• Route documentation for review with document owner by established scheduled deadlines and obtain all required approvals for publishing. • Communicate updates of new and existing technical documentations by established deadlines.
• Organize material and complete writing assignments according to agency standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
• Review project related materials and document revisions or changes in scope, format, and content.
• Review and edit documentation to ensure validity and accuracy of information.
• Support data collection, and data analysis efforts.
Required Qualifications, Skillsets and Abilities:
• Four (4) year Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Communication, Journalism or related field required.
• Three (3) years of experience in technical writing with a focus on technical system documentation; work samples are required.
• Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications.
• Verbal and written communication skills necessary to explain complex information.
• Experience documenting web-based systems.
• Ability to analyze, review, and make recommendations.
• Ability to build collaborative working relationships and to gain input and influence decision makers.
• Background in and understanding of technology related to software development.
• Ability to write clearly and take complicated things and explain them in easy-to-understand ways and able to convey information appropriately for a variety of audiences.
• Talent in showing ideas graphically (i.e. creating process flows in Visio) and a proficiency in graphics and formatting as well as illustration skills.
• Ability to interact with SMEs both from an interviewing and listening perspective.
• Design skills - an appreciation for graphics and formatting as well as illustration skills.
• Usability and testing skills - take an active role in usability and testing such as validation of documentation is important.
• Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs.
