Summary:

We are seeking a Linux Systems Administrator ready to make an immediate
impact with a fast growing, dynamic organization in Houston, TX.  The ideal
candidate has 5 – 8 years of experience managing production servers
providing online 24/7 support and administration.  Experience in designing,
building, maintaining enterprise level hardware to provide critical
services is a must.  Ability to configure and automatically provision “bare
metal” and “cloud hosted” servers is required.  The ideal candidate will
have experience with Red Hat Linux, CentOS, and Debian, and is
knowledgeable in securing a server, can work on servers remotely, is able
to monitor system performance and network activity.  Availability to be
notified of system issues 24 hours a day 7 days a week is expected.  To be
successful at this position a Bachelor degree in Computer Science or
related field of study is required.



Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the
following:

v  Providing 24x7 on-call emergency support for severity one issues and
other business critical situations in a fast paced environment. These
systems include enterprise hardware and software for managing our electric
vehicle charging network.

v  Administrator for various production and non-production systems
including servers and databases supporting our electric vehicle charging
network and related applications.

v  Configure and maintain security across multiple servers, VMs and other
hosted environments.

v  Install, configure, and optimize Web and Application Servers on Linux.

v  Install, configure and optimize databases (e.g. MySQL, PostGres,
Berkeley) on Linux.

v  Migration of existing systems to new server environment as required.

v  Document step by step installation procedures for version / platform
combinations.

v  Perform basic System, Application Server, and Database Administration /
tuning duties.

v  Troubleshoot problems with application server, database, and operating
system setup.

v  Minimize machine setup time and reduce downtime.

v  Develop and implement backup and emergency restoration policies.

v  Develop automation scripts for configuration, backup, and restoration.

v  Configure custom automation tools and utilities on multiple platforms.

v  Allocate and track server assignments for different groups and projects.

v  Monitor production server performance and network activity.

v  Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

v  Ability to work as an individual contributor or as a team member.

v  Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem solving skills.

v  Written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interface
effectively with diverse team.

v  A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.



Qualifications / Education / Experience:



v  Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field of
study

v  5 to 8 years of experience as a Linux System Administrator;  Red Hat,
CentOS, and Debian

v  Expert skills with TCP/IP, firewalls, DNS, packet sniffers, routers,
switches, network protocol topology

v  Experience installing, configuring, optimizing databases; MySql,
PostGres, etc

v  Experience with Chef, Puppet, or equivalent provisioning automation
service

v  Experience compiling software applications and kernel modules

v  Strong scripting skills

v  High interest in automation and scalable solutions

v  Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills

v  Ability to re-configure test software / hardware from scratch

v  Experience with provisioning software solutions to large number of
servers

v  Ability to accurately estimate software / hardware configuration setup
time

v  Ability to troubleshoot software / hardware configuration problems

v  Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation

v  Willingness to work flexible / odd hours at times, based on needs,
including on-call rotation

v  A motivated self-starter that is able to work independently and in teams
on tasks and projects with limited supervision
