Operations Engineer

 

Job Description:  

 

Providing technical expertise within a Tier 2 team focused on the
implementation, service delivery and support of products, systems &
networks. Driving down incident rates and working with 1st line Operations
to improve service recovery times. To ensure that all aspects of operability
are delivered as part of the implementation process whilst ensuring that
existing service levels are maintained or improved.  To contribute to and
ensure full compliance to operational standards, procedures and best
practise.  It involves close liaison with various operational, project,
development and product teams as well working within the Service
Organisation to ensure ongoing service and support can be maintained to
agreed service levels.                                    

Duties:

.
Provides technical expertise & support

.
Implements infrastructure in support of projects

.
Reduces the volume of incidents and proactively manages problems

.
To ensure that appropriate documentation is delivered to 1st Level support

.
Participates in ITIL processes - incident / problem management, change
management, release management, etc.

.
Works out of hours, when appropriate, to support major implementations or to
react to high priority service issues

 

Qualifications:

 

.
Minimum 5+ years of Information Technology implementation and support
experience 

.
A bachelors degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Electrical
Engineering etc.) preferred or equivalent professional experience.  MSCE and
/ or Solaris certification preferred. 

.
Data Center Operations experience required

.
Server Operating Systems - Unix (Sun Solaris) and Windows OS

.
Internet technologies 

.
Shell scripting.  Perl is a plus.

.
Load Balancing

.
Working knowledge of storage technologies (SAN and NAS)

.
Working knowledge of Database systems (Sybase and MS SQL Server)

.
Working knowledge of Management systems

.
Communications protocols and networking technology: TCP / IP, SNMP, IP
routing and protocols, IP Subnetting, ARP, ICMP, SSH, DNS, SMTP

.
IT support in the financial industry is  preferred

.
ITIL experience preferred
