years.

The position has been open for a couple months but most firms don't
know it's hot because it's an old position.  They're going to be
picky.

Senior Application Data Designer
TECHNOLOGY PIPELINE SOLUTIONS

Responsibilities:

Client is passionate about using science and technology to improve
agriculture. Client scientists are conducting research and development
(R&D) to revolutionize plant breeding and biotechnology. The
Technology Pipeline Solutions (TPS) team within IT works directly with
the Client scientists to develop software platforms that enable these
research and development efforts. The accepted candidate will join the
emerging field of IT systems informatics leveraging their data
architecture expertise to play a key role in defining and delivering
breakthrough science in high throughput R&D platforms for Client.

The successful candidate will work with the Technology Pipeline
Solutions (TPS) IT team in the analysis, design and development of
enterprise-class software. The candidate will develop and maintain
conceptual, logical and physical data models and participate in
functional requirements and design sessions. The candidate must be
capable of understanding data strategy on an enterprise level,
implement the department’s data architecture on a project level, and
have the excellent communication skills necessary to successfully
interact with business analysts, data architects, software architects,
project managers, technical leads, software developers, and testers.
This role is responsible for the technical implementation of the
database, and will ensure the data is compliant with TPS
architecture.

Specific responsibilities will include:
Development and maintenance of conceptual, logical and physical data
models.
Work with business analyst and subject matter experts to understand
informational requirements.
Investigate source systems to locate and understand existing subject
areas across TPS.
Adhere to data architecture standards and strategies for designing
solutions
Develop data migration strategies.
Develop impact analysis for database changes including software
development change estimates.
Communicate data requirements to the development team and other
stakeholders

Required Skills:

B.S. in computer science or equivalent experience.
The candidate must possess the following technical experience:
5+ years as a Data Architect or Data Modeler within IT project
environments.
Full project life-cycle from requirements gathering to testing.
Understanding of database design techniques for OLTP, data warehouse,
and data mart design.
Experience in data modeling and data architecture principles.
Experience in RDBMS technologies – Oracle and SQL Server.
Experience in using tools such as Erwin, PowerDesigner, or Qdesigner.
Understanding/experience in working within an iterative development
environment.

Desired Skills:

Experience with Power Designer.
Experience working in an agile development process.
Experience with database refactoring and agile database techniques.
