South Asian American Leaders of Tomorrow presents

A CALL TO ACTION:
Addressing the Post-9/11 Civil Rights Challenge


Since the September 11th attacks, South Asian and Arab Americans have seen
tremendous erosions of their civil liberties in the form of increased hate
crimes, racial profiling, immigration registration and restrictions,
heightened discrimination, and other issues.

These erosions have been made possible by the lack of organized response
within the South Asian community.

Participants will learn about the current state of South Asian civil rights
and how to cultivate relationships with media and government in order to
counteract the image of South Asians as potential terrorists.

This event is sponsored by SAALT and the Northwestern University South Asian
Law Students Association through a grant from the Tides Foundation.

South Asian American Leaders of Tomorrow is a national non-profit
organization dedicated to building leadership and civic engagement from
within the South Asian American community.  Our current activities center
around volunteerism, community awareness and advocacy, and mentorship.
Ongoing activities include "Raising Our Voices: South Asian Americans
Address Hate," a campaign to raise awareness about the rise in hate crimes
against South Asian Ameriicans.  SAALT also organizes National Gandhi Day of
