What happened this past Saturday...

SAPAC members (Aparna, Shashi, Sadaf, Sapna) had lunch on Devon Ave. in
Kamdar Plaza which included Shashi mistakenly calling "kulfi," of ice
cream consistency, "payda," a dry sweet, and eating it with his hands,
only to be surpised at its cold temperature, and much to our amusement.
Shashi also miraculously spoke in Hindi.

I was dragged to the Building Bridges Mtg. but enjoyed the cardamom tea
(chai with elaichi). Lots of SAPAC representation from Sanji, Prateek,
Rasheed Ahmed, Sapna, Aparna, Shashi, and Sadaf. I was time keeper, Sanji
was facilitator, and Shashi brought up the point of encouraging more
women's participation in fighting communalism. Mr. Ahmed suggested more
family-oriented activities so we are currently brainstorming suggestions
for socializing that involve the presence of children.

SAPAC members congregated again at a new snack cafe that's clean enough to
compete with Sukhadia's to debrief the mtg. Sapna and I also took
advantage of shopping in pursuit of matching accessories for clothing,
embracing our consumerist selves without actually buying anything.

Neeraja and I had dinner at Leona's along with Sagan Grover and lovely
wife Rita, in whom I discovered a "role model," and that we had
coinciding social networks, having worked for the same organizations.

Aparna joined Neeraja, Susan, and I at the Funkadesi concert, where we
happily danced to the dhol beat.

Susan, Prateek, and I met up for a bhangra-reggae party with DJ Red Lox or
Siri Adi Singh, to research gender dynamics that come into play at
nightclubs. They refused to give me tap water, but Susan was kind enough
to buy me bottled H2O. Prateek and I practiced speaking in Hindi
afterwards.

Shashi and I as unofficial social co-chairs are planning for Friday Dec.
19th as our next social gathering. We are open to ideas for what you'd
like to do, as we are fairly inclusive. We are thinking one of the
following...
-movie
-bowling
-ice skating
-dancing
-drive to the country i.e. my home near Wisconsin.
Keep in mind that we usually include food as part of our social menu, so
restaurant meeting places are also solicited.

Looking forward to seeing you again!
