It's that time of year again -- we're really excited about this event! For those who don't know me, my name is Rahul Sharma. I am Director of Resources for Sexual Violence Prevention at University of Chicago. I am writing to you about our annual Rape Prevention Month programming.
In particular, I wanted to announce and call for performers for our kick-off event, called "Live Expressions," which is an evening of feature performances and open mic, and includes live music, DJs, and spoken word performance. The theme is gender issues and/or violence against women, so we're looking for artists that deal with these issues in their work.
So far, we have one feature performer: Ayisha Knight (an amazing deaf poet from Boston who is a survivor of sexual violence). Our friend Robert Karimi (who has recently become big-time just like some of you other fantastic Chicago cats with the Def Poetry HBO hook-up) brought Ayisha to the Guild last year, and she was fabulous. BTW, she also got called in to do the HBO show.
I'd like to call for other possible feature performers to contact me (at either my e-mail address above or at 773.834.7738). I also want to invite all to this unique and fun event (food and drink provided!). Here are details:
