Lift restrictions on Mallika Sarabhai: SC
The Supreme Court today instructed the Gujarat
government to lift travel restrictions on eminent dancer Mallika Sarabhai by
February 23.
A bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice VN Khare, Justice AR
Lakshmanan and Justice SH Kapadia expressed 'serious concern' over the
restrictions imposed on Sarabhai.
"She is not a criminal. There has to be some fairness in the prosecution
of persons," the Chief Justice observed.
During the last hearing, Sarabhai's counsel Kapil Sibal had stated that she was
being harassed by the Gujarat police only
because of the fact that she had filed a petition bringing to the apex Court's
notice the laxity in the probe into riot cases and sought transfer of the probe
to CBI.
