POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Database Developer LOCATION: Headquarters – Pittsburgh, PA UNIT OR STAFF DEPARTMENT: Engineering REPORTS TO - (TITLE): Director, Engineering PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Database Developer will be a key member of the engineering team. Duties include designing and Developing relational databases, optimizing database performance, and utilizing all MS SQL development tools to meet client requests. RESPONSIBILITIES (LIST IN DESCENDING PRIORITY ORDER I.E. MOST IMPORTANT TO LEAST IMPORTANT Areas of responsibility · Transactional Database Design and Development · Key activities within each area · Able to perform advanced database design and development tasks. · Provide best practice guidance to the engineering team with regard to database design and usage. · Participate in the design process through all three architectural phases – Conceptual (entities), Logical (relational logic), and Physical · Design databases for company products and services · Participate in software quality assurance activities, including code reviews, data validation and creation of data verification plans. · Collaborate with company DBA’s to identify sources of performance degradation · Develop appropriate corrective actions to resolve production data issues · Data Warehouse and Data Mart Design and Development · Develop ETL strategies for integrating data from multiple sources into data warehouses · Design and develop processes to convert relational data into a flat format which is appropriate for export and/or analysis · Collaborate with Data Analysts to develop rules or functions that will be used to extract data from a data source · Develop automation technologies to expedite the process of loading data into the end target (warehouses or marts) · Perform SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) development and support. Instruct others on proper use of SSIS. EXPERIENCE · Minimum of five years of overall database development experience and a minimum of three years of Experience with MS SQL Server 2005/2008 development. SKILLS · Understanding and experience with various SQL Server technologies including SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS. · Advanced understanding of relational database modeling and the ability to quickly achieve an understanding of complex database systems Excellent SQL Server skills, including developing stored procedures, functions, and queries. · Ability to migrate data with complex rules. · Ability to identify and develop solutions for application performance issues related to the database.
