Position Description
- Applies technical expertise toward developing test strategies &
developing an automation architecture for testing image guided surgery
software & systems.
- Responsible for ensuring products meet Medtronic standards for quality
& reliability & for providing quality related support to the rest of the
engineering organization.
Position Responsibilities
- The Principal Software Developer – Test Engineering is responsible for
developing the architecture & strategy for automated testing, & leading the
enhancement & conversion of existing tests methods. Specific tasks include:
o Provide leadership in the use of testing tools & methodologies
o Defining new strategies for testing software & systems
o Engineering new automation & test methods for new products
o Leading the integration or conversion of existing tests & tools
o Ensuring validation of automation & test tools, Documenting new
test processes, tools, & methods
o Increasing organizational proficiency in the use of testing tools
& methodologies
o Integrating leading edge 3rd party solutions into new & existing
test frameworks & architectures
o Interfacing w/ & influencing across the organization to provide a
cohesive test strategy & infrastructure for Surgical Technology products
- Supporting all phases of product development, including:
o Creating schedules & contributing to project planning
o Supporting the verification & validation of new & changed product
releases against specified requirements
o Prototyping new test cases/methods
o Assisting in the development of hazard & risk analyses
o Documenting test results & metrics, Analyzing field issues &
performing root cause analysis to improve coverage & effectiveness of
existing processes
- Designing, developing, testing & documenting software components &
applications. Troubleshooting, debugging, maintaining, & supporting
existing software products
- Identifying & ensuring the successful implementation of process
improvements
- Following Medtronic Navigation product development standards &
practices.
- Willingness & ability to assume increased responsibility.
Required Skills
- B.S./B.A in Engineering or related field
- 7+ years of previous experience in a test position, preferably in a
regulated environment w/ B.S./B.A.
- 5+ years of previous experience in a test position, preferably in a
regulated environment w/ M.A.
Desired Skills
- Web client/server development/test experience preferred
- Mobile app development/test experience preferred
- 5 + years in Verification & Validation or test of complex software &
hardware systems
- 3+ years in medical device V & V under the FDA QSR preferred
- Knowledge of medical device industry standards related to software
validation preferred
- UNIX/Linux experience
- Scripting language (Python, Perl, Shell) experience
- Expert in designing & executing requirements-driven, functional test
cases & test suites
- Expert in designing automated tests
