how much are SAP DB and Adabas D are alike

Hi,   I have used Adabas D on Win NT and found SAP DB (Windows platform) shared similar concepts and functions. knew from SAP DB website the history was Technology licensed by Software AG and re-branded, followed by License agreement with SAP AG Is that the basis and foundation of the two db is the same? actually who owns the original technology but it was SAP AG to open the source codes? And How much are the codes related to Adabas D? I think I read from somewhere the architecture was revised after the original technology to develop SAP DB. Just curious how the two db in the market can be compared, generally.   Thank you for your enlightenment in advance.
