YOGYAKARTA, 07 March 2007 - At least 21 people are dead and many others injured
after a plane of airliner Garuda crashed upon landing and burst into flames at
the airport of Yogyakarta, central Java. "I saw many bodies, dozens of bodies
badly burnt near the exit," told captain Yos Bintoro, an airport official to
ElShinta radio after the accident. "I saw people dead in the cockpit. I cannot
say if that's the pilot or co-pilot," he said.

could not tell if the people taken to hospitals were still alife or not. "We
have evacuated 93 people so far but we haven't received details of their
condition or whether they survived or died. They were all taken directly to the
hospital," Broto said.

Transport Minister Hatta Rajasa told Metro TV that at least 76 people had
survived the crash. Up to 10 Australians were aboard, mainly journalists and
diplomatic staff. Television showed plumes of smoke rising from the remains.
"The front wheel burst, then there was an explosion from the front and then the
rear wheels burnt as well," Ngadiman, a witness to the accident, told to
