The richness of Satchmo can be a little intimidating. It looks like I've got a number of ways of implementing this, and I'd like some insight from the more experienced.
A simple, common case. A product sold individually, in cases (4), and pallets (many). They are all the same SKU. There's a discount for case and pallet lots, of course. What I'd like is a pulldown that lists Gallon, 6.95 Case of 4 gallons, 25.00 Pallet of 48 gallons, 275.00 ...this in a single product description page. There would be a quantity field, too, which would indicate how many units of the selected packaging (how many cases, etc.). Pricing/Discount Quantity doesn't seem to do what I want. Options/Option Groups? Perhaps, but unless I misunderstand it, it doesn't look like a good fit. Make each packaging of a gallon its own Product? Hmm...that's not going to help with inventory. A pallet can always, and most frequently is, broken into the smaller packages. What I'm describing is really pretty routine, so I wouldn't think it would require customization, but I'm not seeing a clear path forward here.
