I have a noticeable performance hit with with a lot of product variations. I am working on an auto parts store: Using a wheel for an example:
Each wheel has the following variations: Roughly twenty sizes: 17X7, 17X10 .... to 22X10 Four finishes: polished, chrome, clear coat, painted Six Accessories: Spanner Nut, Hex Nut, Crescent Nut.... Creating three wheels generates about 1000 product variations. A wheel product takes a lot longer to load than a product with only a couple, or no, variations. On the public facing site. Any suggestions for handling performance in this context? As for the admin. The product variations manager causes a 504 on my production server when generating that many products. I am going with the tier three plan at webfaction. Disk Space 40GB Bandwidth (per month) 1800GB Application memory 160MB (equivalent to 260MB VPS memory) That works well on everything that doesn't deal with many product variations. Also in admin the inventory manager is unusable with that many variations, as it loads everything, no paging. But I can tweak that easily.
