I always use long-running processes with Lighttpd, no auto-starting via .fcgi scripts. Instead I use Supervisord to manage/ensure that my Django daemons are up. I get great performance, no swapping problems at all. I have not yet tried Green Unicorn with Satchmo. That's next.
