I use Slicehost as well for many of my clients (lately liking the Rackspace
Cloud more, and I can still use my beloved Ubuntu or Debian), with FastCGI.
I always use long-running processes with Lighttpd, no auto-starting via
.fcgi scripts. Instead I use Supervisord to manage/ensure that my Django
daemons are up. I get great performance, no swapping problems at all.

I have not yet tried Green Unicorn with Satchmo. That's next. I will need
to test that the SSL part works the way we need it to before I can go that
route with my clients.
