If "Same as" would be clear, consistent and unobtrusive by default, it would be easy customizable and id would be enough in my opinion. I am not afraid of side effects because the form modified for you sends the same data, what an user can manually send. I use even "Street2" for storing user's commercial register tax ID. It has no side effects. I changed only one line in Satchmo source for the clarity (maybe it was not necessary) modified templates and added several lines to localsite/admin.py to change the order of fields and the label in the admin. That was the reason why I have read address related python code.
