Product comments are joined with ratings 1-5 in Satchmo, both in "productratings" app. For ratings it is really better that one can be edited not multiple added. I admit now that it can be for some user surprising as for you. Better solution welcomed if it is complete.
Applications in satchmo_ext are independent and they can be easily copied and modified as needed without modifying Satchmo.
