This list has had some interesting postings over the last few weeks.
Lots of people are thinking about the future of the Saturday House and
what we want to do next now that the Giraffe Labs part of the story
will soon be setting like the sun on an muggy August day.
There are a lot of different vision of the future and some no doubt
will or have departed from this list and the community as the vision
of things that has been and they want isn't the vision that or the
future of the larger Saturday House community. Saturday House was
formed under the vision of email lists are nice, but they aren't true
face to face communication. Saturday House existed as a way to bridge
the gap between the discussions that exist in this series of tubes,
and the rest of the world.
I strongly encourage anyone with an interest in this community to come
to Saturday House at Giraffe Labs next week at 1 o'clock. So we have
the discussion of what the future will be in person.
Tentative Agenda for next Saturdays Meeting
(feel free to add ideas/comments etc)
1. Disposition of the items at Giraffe Labs
2. Setting up a moving from House to House for the summer. (Also
volunteers for heading up various summer projects, such as a kite day,
etc. )
3. A discussion of the future
a. Finding a new space
i. Looking at Sarah's suggestion of space in the Sodo building
where Saturday House lived before.
ii. Is downtown the best place for Saturday House?
(It has been suggested that we look at office
space in Greenlake
area, also Sandpoint was suggested as a possible location for a
workshop facility)
3. Non Saturday Activities
a. One of the things that came up in a private email discussion
between Lion and myself is jettisoning the name of Saturday House.
i. The name is both a strength and a weakness
ii. I have had a number of people comment that it felt like you
had
to be at Saturday House every Saturday.
iii. Also a number of people say that Saturdays are the worst
day
ever for holding events.
Again if your interested in the community please come to Saturday
House next weekend at 1PM.
