Exploiting my status as host this week, here's a Saturday ad: consider participating in NAMI Walks before heading to Saturday House. I will be, and would be happy to give people rides from there to Saturday House.
NAMI -- National Alliance on Mental Illness -- has a chapter (founding one, even) that my wife has been volunteering with for the past several months. While not the most slick of non-profit organizations, they are scrappy, effective, and do great work. As people of the mind, I'm sure we can all sympathize with the struggle that comes from those whose wiring is not working out as well - and for the family also so burdened. This is a fundraising event, but this is not a fundraising pitch -- neither my wife nor I have even registered. As far as I know, you do not have to donate to participate. Part of the goal is to increase awareness, and to increase participation numbers to show significance. The walk is approximately 5k -- I believe it is in 3 loops -- at Magnuson Park. Check-in at 9a, start at 10a. I will be driving to and from, so for the more mobility constrained, this is a good chance to get a little morning exercise and on to Saturday House. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Website: http://saturdayhouse.org/ Post: [email protected] Unsubscribe: [email protected] -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
