This change was made to avoid confusion between this software and the GNU Development Platform, both named Savannah. At first, Savannah was not meant to be a software project but just an installation of the software SourceForge 2.0 for GNU. However, when SourceForge was made proprietary software, since improvements to the source code were necessary, it was for a team of Libre Software enthusiasts to continue the adventure by creating a fork, called after the name of the development platform they were maintainers of.
