Hello,
As I already told you, you should fill a bug against mailx/mailutils shipped
with GNU/linux because
for i in `seq 1 4000`; do mail youaddress < /etc/hostname
would indeed cause similar flood.
I'm personally not happy with the idea of fixing a problem that does not
currently exists and that should not be solved by technical means while legal
means are available and strong enough.
If it was without consequences, there would be no problem. We'll study your
patch. But if it complexifies the code, open the door to more bugs, we'll
probably drop it.
