This problem is no longer really a problem for the people that use the debian
packages.
For the others cases, I'd say it's beyond us. I perfectly agree with you when
you say it's encouraging broken gettext setup.
But I dont think the time we would spend to find workaround or the pain we
would cause to our users is really worth it.
Indeed, you are welcome if you want to devote time on this issue, there's no
problem with that. But I'd rather keep in the bug list only items we intend
to fix in the next coming year or item that are must really be fixed in any
case, no matter how long they stay. It's easier to browse :)
