I do not know what is exactly your problem but I'm pretty sure it is unrelated
to Savane.

If you had this problem only with a specific system, I would have thought about
a graphical server misconfiguration (low number of colors, for example), or a
bug in a library (like libpng), but this is unlikely to be the problem since it
occurs with two different systems. It cannot be a monitor problem, as your
problem would not show up on screenshots.

That said, this problem does not occurs with mozilla 1.5 / firefox / konqueror
under GNU/Linux, and does not either with image viewers like Gimp, gqview. So
it does not look like an issue with the images itself.

All I can suggest is to browse in mozilla bug tracker. You could check whether
the images are shown correctly with others images viewers on your system, and
check whether the problem show up with all images or only a couple.

This is not a bug in Savane but it is bug in Microsoft IE. These PNG files are
conform to the PNG specifications.

I'm clearly opposed the addition of such an ugly workaround inside Savane while
PNG specifications are freely available since years.

If Microsoft decided not to implement a proper PNG support, it is up to his
customers to ask for an explanation to them, or to stop using their tools.

It would be a different story if no Free Software browser was supporting PNG :
but only netscape 4 got troubles, and netscape 4 is dead since several years
now, while all the graphical browser I know have no problem at all.

Clearly, it is not to tools like Savane to handle proprietary software
limitations.

Not happy with the IE support of PNG? Send them a patch... oups, it does not
work that way. Well "changez de crêmerie" :)

This only shows how proprietary software is bad thing. Nothing else.

The only acceptable workaround is to set the background color inside the PNG.
I've done that in the past, I consider it as a waste of time and a nuisance for
developers.
