The Python/Django rewrite was the first step: getting a maintainable
first code base.
I didn't manage to bring enough manpower around this project and now
I'm not interested anymore.

As far as I'm concerned, you're welcome to contribute to that branch.

I note that both you and Michael want to start redeveloping alone.
