Would it be possible for you to use another tool to create the diffs, perhaps from your own "local" machine rather than having it run on the server? When it was activated on the web-server, scraping programs hit it very frequently and this reduced the availability of the whole of Savannah: having this enabled makes other things appear broken more often.
