It is specifically targeted at embedded environments, and will work happily on the desktop. Its main features are: 1. Small; size /sbin/init: text data bss dec hex filename 6777 864 3624 11265 2c01 /sbin/init 2. Fast; services are started and stopped in parallel. 3. Dynamic; service dependencies are reported to init program during boot. 4. Additional services can be manually started/stopped after boot. 5. Simple; unified configuration/rc-mechanism, not two-level inittab + rc-mechanism. 6. Can use external rc-mechanism if needed, e.g. Gentoo OpenRC. 7. Specifically targeted at embedded environments, in particular: works happily with read-only file systems; performs no explicit dynamic memory allocation. 8. Single user mode supported, as instructed by kernel. 9. Multi-platform; tested on GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD. 10. Complete with utility programs for: service management; daemon management; single-user mode login; multi-shot getty; system halt program. ==== Tarball URL: ==== http://savannah.gnu.org/submissions_uploads/tinyinit-0.1.tar.gz _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.nongnu.org/task/?11230> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.nongnu.org/
