Improve error messages from the script language

Our users are challenged by the scripting language. This is necessary to some
extent, but we can help them a little bit more. Here are some ideas:
Type error messages: only display the relevant part of the type mismatch,
probably get rid of (most of) the stack-trace-like style.
Other messages: remove weird vocabulary. For example, people don't understand
"unbound variable" and we could state it in a simpler way.
