Hi OB Birders,
This year the Fraser's Hill International Bird Race will take place from
Saturday 23 June to Sunday 24 June.
This is the longest-running (since 1988) bird race in Malaysia, and it means a
lot to the organizers when teams turn up from abroad, even foreign individuals
are noted; if you make it to this Malaysian hill station a day or two early you
can usually find new friends to form a team with (three people per team).
The Fraser's Hill Development Corporation and the Tourism Pahang office in
Kuantan usually put in a big effort to make this event a high profile success.
People like myself and Dennis Yong, Mike Chong, Allen Jeyarajasingam, Yang
Chong, Durai on location and others try to ensure that the birding aspect makes
sense. We have put together a guide and checklist to the area that was
re-printed and updated this year. I will not be able to be there this year. But
I urge others who can make it to be there, their participation DOES make a
difference when development plans and conservation efforts for the mountain
range are discussed.
