Running a single role farm is really no problem.  It's pretty easy to
get setup.

I think you'll find that the scaling part gets to be tricky really
fast when you have all of your "application roles" (db,web,etc..)
overloaded onto a single "Scalr role".  Not that it's not possible,
you'll just have more factors to consider in writing all of your
scaling scripts.  I looked at going this route for a while and then
just decided I was better off splitting things up somewhat.  It really
does make the config/scripting easier to grok.
