Hello, there!
OSS Scalr 5.3 has been released (in fact, it has been released for a couple weeks, but we didn't have upgrade instructions yet). The changes in 5.3 are largely internal (e.g. the cron jobs are gone); as an end-user, you can expect more stability and performance (e.g. launching servers should happen faster). However, one change that you need to be aware of as a OSS Scalr user is that the install and upgrade process has changed. Scalr now ships as a package (an "Omnibus" package) that includes every single binary you need to run Scalr. The package also handles upgrades and restarting appropriate services after configuration changes for you. *However, we have discontinued the "scalr-manage" installer*. In other words: upgrading to the packages is the only way forward to keep your Scalr install up to date. On the upside, upgrading to the Packages means that future upgrades should go very smoothly. Also, the packages are already in use by Scalr Enterprise customers, and we're confident that in addition to being more featureful, they are also more stable. We have posted upgrade instructions here: https://scalr-wiki.atlassian.net/wiki/x/SQBJAQ. These have been tested, but due to the nature of the former installer, they are quite high-level. If you have a Scalr 5.1 install you'd like to upgrade to 5.3, feel free to ask for additional detail or help in this group. Enjoy!
