This is a Formal Response to Formal Comment #434: List of named characters is incomplete
The editors adjusted the draft to clarify that implementations may provide whatever additional character names they see fit, and that #\iota is a valid name only in an implementation that provides both the character itself and the name. The name "iota" is in fact drawn from a W3C-maintained list of HTML/XML entity names, ultimately of ISO origin. However, the WG voted not to recommend any particular source of additional character names. If you are dissatisfied with this Formal Response, please let us know.
