Robert Jones is a developer in Scotland who has been working on open source information systems for schools. Unfortunately (for us) he was bitten by the Ruby on Rails bug, and my attempt to lure him to the Zope 3 side of the force six months or so ago failed (which is also one reason we've spent a fair amount of time on developer documentation recently).
But Robert did like our overall look, and since SchoolTool is free software, he's within his rights to use our CSS and overall design since both projects use the GPL. Also, he was polite enough to ask my assent, which I gave (although it is essentially meaningless). As you can read below, he's been plugging along on his Rails-based FreeMIS application. Browsing around http://demo.freemis.net is an interesting experience, because it has a very similar look and feel to SchoolTool, but with many different small choices. I think it may be particularly beneficial for us to reference, since the differences stick out more among the overall similarity. --Tom ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Robert Jones <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Feb 13, 2006 2:18 PM Subject: [sf-uk-mias] FreeMIS Release To: Schoolforge-UK Discussions <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I finally got around to a public release of the Ruby on Rails version of FreeMIS. You can thank the lack of snow in Scotland for this - I should have been on an "Alpine Showboard Leader" course in the Cairngorms, but it got cancelled due to lack of the white stuff. This release is mainly for the developer community, as you need to be able to install Ruby and Rails and MySQL on a machine before you can make it go! Anyone can check out the demo though.
