Upcoming Author Events

The Knight Science Journalism Fellowships program invites you to attend two upcoming author events, on October 13 and 16.

Tuesday, October 13

Seminar with Michael Specter
4:00–6:00 pm in MIT E19-623
Denialism: How irrational thinking hinders scientific progress, harms the planet, and threatens our lives.

New Yorker writer Michael Specter covers science, technology and global health issues for the magazine, and has been a science writer for The Washington Post and The New York Times. He will speak about his new book on the dangerous rise of denialism, including cases such as the protestors who marched in Washington against childhood vaccines, the single most effective public health measure in history.

Friday October 16

Brown Bag Lunch with K.C. Cole
12:00–2:00 pm in MIT E51-345
Something Incredibly Wonderful Happens: Frank Oppenheimer and the world he made up

K.C. Cole, USC Annenberg School of Journalism, is a long-time science writer for the L.A. Times, and the author of several books, the most recent a memoir/biography of her late mentor, Frank Oppenheimer, the “uncle” of the atom bomb and the founder of San Francisco’s well-known “museum of awareness”—the Exploratorium. She will talk about the book, and the nature of science in the public mind.

Please feel free to bring your lunch.

Sponsored by the Knight Science Journalism Fellowships at MIT and the Program in Science, Technology, and Society
