Colleagues:

One of the many, many cool things to be featured in the brand new MIT Museum
will be a working replica of Claude Shannon’s Theseus maze. This replica was a
collaborative project with the Heinz NixdorfMuseumsForum in Paderborn, Germany.
Dr. Jochen Viehoff, director of the museum, has flown in to help us get the
replica working just in time for the opening. He will be giving demonstrations
of the device on Sunday when we make our grand public opening but I wanted to
call your attention to a special lecture and talk for the Cambridge Science
Festival on Monday, October 3 from noon-1 pm.

During this session, Dr. Viehoff will be giving the background to the complex
effort he and his colleagues at HNF undertook over the past decade. It will
also feature a demonstration of the device. The event is free but does require
tickets<https://tickets.mitmuseum.org/events/e5b5b67f-2d00-8572-61e5-e7e1ac5d30cb>.

For more information about the talk, see the festival
guide<https://cambridgesciencefestival.org/event/the-mouse-that-changed-everything-building-a-working-replica-of-claude-shannons-famous-theseus-maze/>.
(Which also has information on the many other spectacular programs scheduled
for our special 2022 edition of CSF.)

Look forward to seeing you at our first public talk in the new museum!

Debbie Douglas
