Well if you have free capacities here this would be great, indeed. I
think almost all icons used in the current GUI could get a brush up.
Additionally, I think this part would maybe reach the largest part of
our users.

If you want to take on this part, I'd have some suggestions about procedure:

- I'd suggest to generate SVG as basic format as we can later scale it
easily.

- It would be good if the icons do not require too much colours or at
least that the colours are chosen such, that they still look nice in 256
mode. Scids GUI can deal with more in case certain libs exist but at the
moment we keep at least an additional GIF version for compatiblity.

- It would be good if the icons have enough contrast to be easily
readable and not to much details to be easily scalable. I'd suggest to
get some inspiration from sets usually called "industrial" or the like.
But as you are a designer I most likely just send some owls to athens ;)

- I think it might be a good idea to start out with a good existing set
and build upon that one. I'd guess that e.g. the Tango theme might be a
good starting point as it is already done entirely in SVG and gives a
good list of default icons. Additionally, the project already has the
goal to offer specialised sets for specific applications. Maybe some
interaction with them is possible. One would have to check how it looks
as 256 colours, however, it is a pretty colourfull theme... (Admitting
however, hat I'm a fan of older "GNOME Industrial".)

- You could generate all icons outside of Scid first. I'd suggest to set
up a web site where other users can see your work and may give some
commentary here on the list. We could then transfer them to the final
format and replace them within Scids code. I think, Israel could give a
helping hand here if some space is needed, or I could set aside some
space as well.

- To keep the GUI consistent I think it might be advisable to work out a
certain part at a time. Say for the first thing the complete icon bar.
Then dialogue X and so on. Being too ambitious most likely will run into
some destructive interference with your real life, and I'd consider this
work a long lasting process. Still it would be good if Scid could keep a
consistent look and feel.

- During the process, I'd guess that we can reduce the overall number of
icons within Scid quite a bit while making the GUI more consistent at
the same time. It would IMHO be good to take this opportunity.

Just my two cents, however.
