"I'm meeting with [Illinois] congressional legislators about what to do," said Vallas, as reports circulated he would announce on Monday the formation of a committee to explore his candidacy. "I haven't told anybody that I would do it Monday." He declined to elaborate. Vallas was reached in Washington, where he was attending an event of the Council of the Great City Schools. Reports that Vallas might be interested in running for political office have surfaced off and on since late last year. The stories intensified after Vallas resigned last month after serving six years. Mayor Richard Daley reportedly was pushing for a leadership change because of a growing concern that school reform in Chicago had stalled. Republican Gov. George Ryan has yet to say whether he'll seek re-election. -- This is the CPS Science Teacher List.
