Hello,

I am having some difficulty installing Scientific Linux 6.

My current HDD is dual booting Windows 10 and Linux Mint 18. It is also mostly
full. So I would like to create a Live USB that can install a full version onto
another 128 GB USB drive...basically the 128 GB drive would function similar to
an external hard drive that I would have SL6 installed onto.

I have tried to create a Live USB of SL6 using UNETBOOTIN from my Linux Mint 18
partition. I also tried to create a Live USB using Universal USB Installer from
my Windows 10 partition. Both of these methods gave the same result. I would
reboot my computer, with the BIOS boot priority set to look for USB flash drive
first. It would give me a menu. I could either boot into live DVD, or select
install SL6. In all cases it starts to either boot, or go to install depending
on the choice. Before the process completes I then get the following in both
cases:

Kernal panic -not syncing:Attempted to kill init
Pid: 1, comm: init Not tainted 2.6.32-642.3.1.el6.x86_64 #1
Call Trace:
[<ffffffff81546c27>] ? panic+0xa7/0x179
[<ffffffff8112ae40>] ? perf_event_exit_task+0xc0/0x340
[<ffffffff81081f37>] ? do_exit+0x867/0x870

[<ffffffff81082027>] ? sys_exit_group+0x17/0x20
[<ffffffff8100b0d2>] ? system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b

I then tried all of the suggestions in the first post of:
http://scientificlinuxforum.org/index.php?showtopic=1433

However, I get the same error as above. I then tried to perform a network
install. After creating a Live USB with the netinstall ISO, I rebooted. I then
followed all of the prompts for setting up an install. It then asked me to
setup and confirm my partitions. I then confirmed the install configuration. It
then gave me a new window that said that:
"Installer has tried to mount image #1, but cannot find it on the hard drive."

In all cases, the creation of the Live USB gave no errors, so I do not suspect
any problems with this part.

I have tried the following ISO files:
SL6.8: x86_64 DVD, x86_64_CD, i386, and netInstall
SL6.7:x86_64 DVD, netInstall
SL6.3: x_86_64 DVD

Sometimes it's useful to know system specs to debug issues. The specs of my
laptop are:
ACER Aspire E 15
intel Core i5-6200U 2.3 GHz
intel HD graphics 520
4 GB DDR4 RAM
1 TB HDD
Dual Boot OS: Windows10 and Linux Mint18

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated!

Best Regards,
Shawn
