I have an Acer Aspire 3050-1042 that has an Atheros AR5006, but sometimes this
particular Atheros chipset is misrepresented (for instance, in lspci) as an
Atheros AR5007. So if you've found that your card chipset is AR5007 from lspci
or the like, you may also actually have an AR5006.

I run slackware 12.1 on that Acer laptop. I have never used madwifi. Ages ago
(like during the 2.6.28 kernels) I've used ndiswrapper, and it worked. IIRC,
even aircrack and the like worked under ndiswrapper.

I think I switched to the ath5k modules sometime during the 2.6.29 series, not
sure. So I can't say if older kernels actually support AR5006/AR5007 or not.

Right now the laptop is running only on the ath5k modules from the 2.6.30.4
kernel and it works absolutely wonderfully - the front panel switches actually
block and unblock the connection (not sure if it powers/unpowers the antenna,
never checked it), the leds work, etc.

I don't know which kernel version SL 5.3 runs, we're still on the 5.2 and 4.7
era here at work, but possibly they are older than 2.6.29. If that is the case,
try compiling the latest kernel, and enabling as modules ath5k and ath9k (just
to be sure), maybe you'll get your card working.

Good luck!
